The Village of Ahwatukee
No, it’s not a city – nope not a town either. Believe it or not, Ahwatukee is a village. Yes, that’s correct, a village. Technically speaking it’s Ahwatukee, Phoenix. So besides being hard to spell – this triangular-shaped (just a coincidence apparently)”village” has some other interesting features to discover.
Surrounding Communities of Ahwatukee, Phoenix
Ahwatukee (the village) is bordered on the North by South Mountain Park and Guadalupe Rd then on the east by I10 and the cities of Chandler, Guadalupe, and Tempe. To the south and west is the Gila River Indian Community. Home to approximately 77,000 residents it covers an area of 38.5 sq. miles. Ahwatukee, though a rather young village, maintains its aura of historical mystery as to its name and origin. So why didn’t it ever become a city and shed the “village” reference? Hmmm…Good question!
The village itself is an unbearably cute collection of red sandstone, adobe-style homes, that blend perfectly into the backdrop of the desert. It certainly has a uniqueness all its own and character that is forever etched into its aura. True to its designation, it feels a lot like a village – but of the more modern-day.
