The Granite Falls Golf Club in Surprise, Arizona is best known for its winning combination of playability, fun challenges and beautifully landscaped 18-hole courses. The well-kept Bermuda grass greens on both of the club’s courses have earned the reputation of putting true. The club’s playability should come as no surprise, since the award-winning team of PGA Hall of Famer Billy Casper and architect Greg Nash designed the attractive and well-laid-out courses.
The North Course, which opened in 1997, is a relatively open course that features some lush landscaping, scenic waterfalls and fountains. The water elements come into play throughout the traditionally designed course. The 6,720-yard course has been rated at 71.6 with a slope of 122. There are four sets of tees on this course and an executive course option of 4,124 yards. The par-5 holes are considered to be particularly challenging, with handicap rankings of 1, 3, 4 and 6. There are also a variety of par-3 holes, ranging from 155 to 214 yards. But the par-4 15th is considered the most challenging and a true test of golfing skill.
The South Course, which was added in 2000, also offers some stunning scenery as it rambles through patches of tall buffalo grass, through wooded hills and alongside lakes. The 6,839-yard South Course is rated at 71.2, with a slope of 120. There are only about 30 traps around this scenic course, but despite the understated bunkering, the traps’ placement ensures some challenging hazards for players.
Both the North and South courses offer generous fairways, suitable for players of all levels. For practice there’s a 30-tee driving range, a chipping and bunker area and a putting green. The clubhouse, which features a snack bar, is shared by players on both courses and is located on the South Course. Granite Falls is one of four golf clubs found in the Sun City Grand active adult community. Sun City Grand residents receive tee-time preference but guests are always welcome. The semi-private club is open all year and due to its reasonable prices offers great value compared to pricier courses in the area.
With its lush landscaping, beautiful scenery and challenging courses, the Granite Falls Golf Club offers many pleasurable opportunities for improving your game. The outstanding scenery contributes to the overall experience. And the courses’ careful maintenance ensures that golfers can count on reliable conditions every time they play.
If you’re looking for a golf course that offers beautiful views and can also challenge your skills, the Granite Falls Golf Club is a good bet. It’s one of the many reasons that people move to the Sun City Grand active adult community.
